Louis Wright

Cornerback Louis Wright was drafted by the Denver Broncos 17th overall in the 1975 NFL Draft out of San Jose State.

Starting 11 games his rookie season, Wright picked off two passes and forced a fumble his first year in the League.

In 1977, Wright intercepted 3 passes for 128 yards and a touchdown and helped lead the Broncos to Super Bowl XII. The talented corner earned the respect of every offense the Broncos faced. He was both an excellent run supporter as he was a coverage corner.
“They use a term today of shutdown cornerback," said former Buffalo Bills Head Coach Joe Collier. "We didn't have that term back then, but Louie Wright was a shutdown cornerback. He was a great run defender. He played the left side and in those days most teams were right-handed and their running plays usually went to our left side.”
Wright had a career year in 1983, intercepting a 6 passes and being named First-Team All-Pro by Newspaper Enterprise Association. The following season, he recorded the second fumble return for a touchdown of his career and was named First-Team All-Pro by Pro Football Weekly and The Sporting News.

A member of the 1970's All Decade Team, Wright was a five-time Pro Bowl selection, a two-time All Pro, and the 1977 Football Digest NFL Defensive Back of the Year.

When he retired, Wright had snagged 26 interceptions for 360 yards and a score and 11 fumble recoveries.

Wright was inducted to the Denver Broncos Ring of Fame in 1993, but is yet to be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

  1. This is a good list. I think a couple of O-linemen belong as well.
